Inverclyde Activities
Catering Options
Unity Enterprise in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire Get Ready for Work and Inverclyde Social Work Department offers practical training and work experience to young people aged 16-18 and adults with learning difficulties at the Fitzgerald centre and at our social enterprise, Unity Diner. The training and work experience is delivered within a catering environment and covers a variety of areas including:
- Food Hygiene
- Food Preparation
- Customer Service
All trainees work towards a recognised qualification through City and Guilds and ASDAN programmes.
As part of our Catering Options project we also run a social enterprise within the municipal buildings of Inverclyde District Council called the Unity Diner. Through this project we provide real work experience placements for adults with learning difficulties. On a daily basis they are involved in providing staff lunches, refreshments for meetings and buffets.
At both the Fitzgerald Centre and the Unity Diner our aim is to ensure each individual receives a person centred approach to training with the goal of secure employment on completion of the project.
Education Options
Our education programme, run in partnership with Inverclyde Education Department, is designed around the educational needs of young people ages 14-16. It offers three stages for each young person: vocational training, personal development, and continuing education provision.
Unity Enterprise also helps to prepare young people for employment through the City and Guilds Preparation for Employment framework. This provides training in Career Planning, Personal Skills, Information and Communication Technology and Life skills.
Practical workshops are offered on a number of activities including:
- Joinery
- Arts and Crafts
- Painting and Decorating
- Computer Skills
The aim of the project is to promote self esteem in the young individual, and serve as a platform for further development in either education, training or employment.
